Our website wins the Web4Dev Award!

It's not often that you win an award, so I hope you'll not take it as arrogance if I blow my trumpet a bit today. The big news is, the World Volunteer Web, which was relaunched with a new design and structure last November under my supervision, has won the Web4Dev Award for 2006! The award is given by the World Bank to recognize excellence in website design and management in the non-profit sector. We received the award at an event today. In true spirit of things, the award ceremony was as virtual as the website itself! We connected with the World Bank, UN and DFID colleagues and the other winner teams in different cities through videoconference, and received the honours virtually. But, wait, there's some real benefit to it too: the award certificate and the cash prize are following in reality... Yes, we won some cash prize too: $5,000, which I'm planning to spend on my holiday this summer. Do you have a place to recommend? :-)

The dosas, idlis and the sambar tasted better than any we have had in Delhi in so many years, and we think it's not due to the long gap...

We’re becoming Web experts, says my Guru

How has the Internet changed over the last decade? What do children think about Google, and how could Amazon improve its website? My favourite web usability guru, Jakob Nielsen, gives his views on the current state of the Internet - and peers into its future, in an interview with BBC.
